June 21st 2018 - Cincinnati Ohio

Yesterday, June 21st 2018,  the CLF convened at Cooper's Hawk Winery in Cincinnati.  What an amazing venue; check this place out:

The winery was incredible and the presentations couldn't have been any better.  We had a group of 30 security pros from Greater Cincinnati gathered together.  Here are a couple pictures of our group:

My sincere thanks to our speakers and guests for making this another great event.

Powerpoint Slide Decks:

I want to give a special "thank you" to Jennifer Summers, my awesome new colleague, who came from out of town to help us with the event, and made our guests and speakers feel at home.  Thank you Jennifer for giving us your time.  We hope you will join the CLF again in the future.

Jennifer and I are pictured here standing proudly with our speakers:

Richard Bird was our keynote presenter.  His presentation "There Are No Outsiders" is a game-changer.  Only a person who has lived through the most challenging InfoSec scenarios (and lived to tell about it) could speak as he does.  He is a consummate thought-leader who speaks with the authority of experience.  Better still, when we asked Richard why he does what he does, he said his passion is to help people learn and grow; that is what drives him...he wants to see others benefit from his lifelong experiences.  My sincere gratitude goes out to Richard.  He is extremely busy, and yet he dedicated his time to be with our group.  Thank you Richard.

As has become a staple in the CLF meetings, Jerod Brennen, my good friend and very talented colleague, lead our group through the round table discussion on "Current Events in Privacy & Security".   Thank you Jerod!

Here are a couple pics of Jerod moderating the roundtable discussion with our group:

And last but far from least, on behalf of the entire CLF, I want to thank my good friend Matt Scheurer, President of the Cincinnati Networking Professionals Security Special Interest Group (CiNPA Security SIG), for attending our event and helping make it a success.  Matt you and your group are always welcomed to the CLF.  We look forward to partnering with you more in the future.

Matt Scheurer, President of CiNPA Security SIG

Our next CLF meeting will be on Thursday July 26th in the Greater Detroit metro.   We're looking at Bacco Ristorante in Southfield as the venue.  I will send an announcement once we confirm the arrangements.

I hope to see you next month!

March 21st 2018 - Toledo Ohio

The 2018 CyberSecurity & Risk Management Summit was held in Toledo this past Wednesday.  We had approximately 80 security & audit professionals in attendance for a full day of training at U of Toledo's Immersive Simulation Center; later that evening, around 50 joined us for dinner & drinks at Maumee Bay Brewing Company.

In my dinner remarks, I commented that this event was a memorable, unique, and highly educational experience.  It was also a lot of fun because we got to meet so many great people of Northwest Ohio.  We were able to grow and learn as a community of security leaders and practitioners.

We are all thankful to Northwest Ohio ISACA and IIA chapters for their partnership and guidance in organizing the event.    As well, our keynotes and instructors did a phenomenal job, and I'd like to recognize them for their great talent, and for sharing their expertise with our group.
